Former minister and veteran Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy today came down heavily on TPCC chief Revanth Reddy, and alleged that the latter was solely responsible for the weakening of the party in Telangana.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Shashidhar Reddy said that the Telangana Congress became afflicted by cancer after Revanth Reddy took over the mantle of the TPCC chief, and that the cancer had now turned incurable, with the Congress not in a position to face the TRS in Telangana any more.
He said that the attitude of Revanth Reddy towards the senior leaders of the party was quite reprehensible. He alleged that the TPCC chief was running the party with only his supporters and was not accessible to many party leaders, and that several party leaders like him were planning to leave it in the days to come.
He also claimed that Revanth Reddy was planning to set up his own party after ensuring the victory of 15 MLAs in the next Assembly elections.
Shashidhar Reddy also alleged that Revanth Reddy had not spent a single penny in the recent by-elections in the Munugodu Assembly constituency after promising to spend Rs 10 crore, and had made the mandal in-charges of the party spend money from their own pockets threatening that they would not get any party posts otherwise, resulting in the resounding loss.
Claiming that he had always considered himself as a Congress man, Shahshidhar Reddy said that he was one of the several party leaders who had urged the high command not to make Revanth Reddy as the TPCC chief, and that he had explained to the party high command the status of the party in Telangana three months back. None of that was taken into consideration, leaving the party in the state that it was today, and he had no option but to leave the party now, he lamented.
He added that he was however not retiring from politics.
