In a shocking decision, the Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of the Congress today expelled senior party leader and former minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy "for resorting to anti-party activities", for a period of six years.
The Chairman of the committee and former minister Dr G Chinna Reddy convened its meeting over the meeting of Shashidhar Reddy with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Chinna Reddy discussed at length the meeting of Shashidhar Reddy on November 18 in New Delhi with Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay and D K Aruna, and said that Reddy had met Amit Shah to join the BJP.
The committee also took serious cognizance of the remarks of Shashidhar Reddy against TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy on Saturday.
In a statement, the committee said that the activities of Shashidhar Reddy warranted disciplinary action under the Indian National Congress' constitution.
"Keeping in view the situation and the anti-party activities of Shashidhar Reddy, the DAC of the TPCC has taken a decision to expel him from the Congress for a period of six years," it said.
It also said that the expulsion would come into force with immediate effect.
