Giving the Congress a jolt two days before the General Body meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the party's floor leader, Kaleru Venkatesh, on Wednesday, resigned from the post. He also submitted his resignation from the Congress' primary membership, to join the YSR Congress party.
After giving his resignation to Labour Minister and Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagender, Venkatesh said that he had quit the Congress since it has "lost the people's faith".
He said that the Congress has burdened the common man by increasing the prices of public utilities and essential commodities.
He added that the state government was not keen on taking up development works in Hyderabad, and that it had also discontinued YSR's welfare schemes.
Venkatesh said that due to the Congress governments at the Centre and at the state, Congress leaders have "lost their image", and were unable to face the public. He said that YSRCP president Jaganmohan Reddy could solve the problems being faced by the people by reviving the schemes introduced by his late father.
He also announced that he would work hard to strengthen the YSR Congress in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. (INN)
