Former minister and Greater Hyderabad Congress president Danam Nagender faced severe criticism for the party's dismal performance in the city during the recent Assembly elections.
Participating in the review meeting held by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ponnala Lakshmaiah at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, Congress leaders accused Nagender, another former minister M Mukesh Goud and former Secunderabad MP M Anjan Kumar Yadav of damaging the party in the city while in power.
They alleged that the Congress workers of Hyderabad were never given any importance by the trio. They said that the cadre felt ignored, discouraged and humiliated by the senior leaders on several occasions.
The review meeting was attended by Nagender, Yadav, Rajya Sabha MP M A Khan, MLCs Mohammed Ali Shabbir and M S Prabhakar, Deputy Mayor D Rajkumar, former Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy, former MLA Jaya Sudha and Dr P Vinay Kumar.
They discussed and reviewed the reasons responsible for the Party's poor performance in the elections.
A few leaders also accused Nagender and Shabbir Ali of showing favouritism in giving nominated posts. They alleged that one important post was sold to an individual by a taking bribe of nearly Rs 70 lakhs.
Speaking to media persons later, TPCC General Secretary M M Baig said that it had been decided to encourage the youth in the party by allocating at least 75% tickets to the youth in future elections.
TPCC Minority Department Chairman Sirajuddin said that a majority of leaders were in favour of the removal of Nagender from the post of Greater Hyderabad Congress President.
A few important leaders including Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao, Marri Shashidhar Reddy and M Mukesh Goud did not attend the meeting. (INN)
