Congress Alleges "Kalvakuntla Tax" In Telangana

Speaking on the hike in liquor prices, the party alleged that the State was witnessing a new kind of tax called Kalvakuntla Sales Tax.
Hyderabad | 17th December 2019
Malkajgiri MP and Congress leader A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday wrote an open letter to the people of the State alleging that the State was witnessing a new kind of tax called Kalvakuntla Sales Tax (KST).

He alleged that a 6% commission needed be handed over to the ruling party leaders to take up any kind of work in the State.

Commenting on the increase of the liquor prices in the State, Reddy alleged that the Kalvakuntla sales tax mafia was behind it.

He claimed that an MP from the ruling party had played a crucial role in the increase of the liquor prices, and that the MP had stayed at Chennai and Delhi to negotiate a deal with the liquor companies and earn commissions before the announcement of the increase in the prices.

He alleged that liquor prices were 1,000 times their actual production cost in Telangana. He also said that Uttar Pradesh which had a population of 20 crore did not have the kind of income that Telangana earned through the sale of liquor.

The rulers of the State were encouraging the sale of only those liquor brands whose manufacturers gave them attractive commissions, he also claimed.

Calling it all a big scam, he requested the Central government to intervene in the issue by ordering a CBI enquiry into the increase in the sale of liquor in the State to bring the actual facts to the fore.

He said that the decision of the State government to encourage the sale of liquor was basically compromising the security of the women of the State.

Commenting on the issuance of liquor shop licenses, he wondered how the State government had allotted shops though the lottery system when that was banned in the State. He also alleged that the State government was not returning the money to those who didn't get the licenses.

He demanded the State government immediately rescind its order to increase the prices of liquor.
