The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday accused the state government of converting the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Board into a "rehabilitation centre" for Congress leaders.
Talking to media persons on Saturday, BJP spokesperson M V V S Prabhakar said that the Congress party is promoting corruption and irregularities even in a religious body like TTD.
He also said that a lot of irregularities and scams had occurred when the TTD Board was chaired by Adikeshavulu Naidu and Karunakar Reddy.
Demanding a CBI enquiry into the irregularities, he said that the government must stop TTD from being used as a political tool.
He added that after Adikeshavulu's term, the state government had constituted a 'Specified Authority' for the TTD. However, it was scrapped and the previous TTD Board structure was retained.
He then raised questions on what the state government had achieved by constituting the 'Specified Authority', and what had prompted it to restore the TTD Board.
The government must give a satisfactory answer as to why it has been experimenting with the functioning of the religious body, that happens to be among the richest religious institutions in the country, he said adding that a thorough probe by the CBI should be conducted to expose the irregularities committed in the TTD in the past by the ruling Congress leaders.
He said that it was during NTR's regime that a state Lok Ayukta was constituted to deal with corruption at higher levels. He then demanded that the state Assembly should pass a resolution, granting more powers to the Lok Ayukta.
He also accused TDP President Chandrababu Naidu, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and Chiranjeevi of promoting and indulging in corruption in the state.
Speaking about Governor E S L Narasimhan's recent visit to New Delhi, the BJP leader accused the Governor of misrepresenting the current political situation in the State.
He said that the political scenario in the state is extremely volatile now, and that the administration is almost dysfunctional, but that the Governor had painted a picture of complete political stability and peace in the state. (INN)
