BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao today alleged that the Congress and the BRS had a tacit understanding to shield the latter's top leaders from jail.
Addressing a municipal election meeting at Narsapur in Medak district, he said that the Congress had promised to imprison corrupt BRS leaders within 100 days of coming to power, but even after more than two years in office, it had taken no action against any major BRS leader.
Responding to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's remarks that there was a secret deal between the BRS and the BJP, Rao asserted that, in fact, there was an understanding between the Congress and the BRS.
He pointed to investigations into the phone-tapping case and the Kaleshwaram project progressing "slowly" and being "intentionally delayed" as proof.
He also said that even in the Kaleshwaram project, the government had handed over only the quality assessment of three barrages to the CBI, while ignoring the alleged large-scale corruption in the entire project, and challenged the Congress government to hand over the entire Kaleshwaram corruption case to the CBI.
Rao also alleged that under the Congress governance the urban residents of the State were facing severe infrastructure issues, including poor drainage, irregular drinking water supply and frequent power problems.
He also accused the Congress government of imposing heavy taxes on municipalities, following the same path as the previous BRS regime.
He credited the Union government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for nationwide road development, and several welfare measures including the supply of free rice to the poor, and alleged that the Chief Minister was spreading misinformation about the Centre's support. He also said that "tax terrorism" would rise if the Congress continued in power, and urged people to elect BJP candidates for corruption-free governance.
