Temperatures drop to their lowest levels in December every year, but this year the situation has arisen in November itself. The minimum temperatures recorded in the last year were recorded on the night of the 23rd of this month itself in four districts. Nizamabad recorded a minimum temperature of 12 degrees, Hanumakonda 12.9 degrees, Mahbubnagar 13.4 degrees and Nalgonda 13.6 degrees.
Very low temperatures are being experienced in many places in the nights, and there are scenes of fog in the morning across the State.
Cold winds are being experienced during the afternoons, too, in some places.
The cold wave conditions are being felt mainly in the northern and central districts of the State. Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district recorded the lowest temperatures in the State. Sirpur (U) in the district recorded a temperature of 9.4 degrees on Saturday (November 23) night, and 8.3 degrees last night. Lingapur recorded a minimum temperature of 10.1 degrees, Kerameri 10 degrees, Wankidi 11.2 degrees, Ginnidari 11.2 degrees, Kagaznagar 11.2 degrees and Asifabad 11.8 degrees. Dhanora and Tiryani mandals in the district too are experiencing cold wave conditions. Agency areas in the district are also reeling under the impact of the cold wave accompanied by gusty winds.
In Adilabad district, Bhimpur, Bayla, Boraj, Jainath, Neredu, Bajar Hatnoor, Boath, Bela, Adilabad Rural, Neradigonda and Mavala mandals are reeling under the impact of the cold wave. The lowest minimum temperature of 10.6 degrees was recorded in Bhimpur mandal. Bayla recorded 10 degrees, Boraj 10.3 degrees, Jainath 10.4 degrees, Neredu 10.5 degrees and Adilabad Rural 12.9 degrees.
Sangareddy district in central Telangana is also in the grip of a cold wave. Kohir in the district recorded a low of 9.9 degrees. The intensity is high in Gummadidala, Kangi, Nyalkal, Andol, Pulkal, Zaheerabad and Munipalli mandals.
Daytime temperatures in the State have also dropped below normal levels. Mahbubnagar and Ramagundam recorded 2.7 degrees, Hanumakonda recorded 2.6 degrees and Hyderabad recorded 12 degrees below the normal temperatures.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that temperatures may drop even further in the next three days.
Doctors are advising people to take precautions in light of the orange and yellow alerts in the State. They emphasized that children, the elderly and those suffering from illnesses should be vigilant. Traveling during the early morning and night hours is being advised against. People in the agency areas are being advised to stay in warm environments.
The Meteorological Department officials have urged the administration to be on high alert due to the possibility of cold and gusty winds.
