The summer heat is intensifying in Telangana. While the temperatures that are currently being recorded are one or two degrees Celsius above normal levels, weather department officials say that the intensity of the heat will increase further in the coming days and that temperatures were likely to be higher than normal during this summer season.
Summer temperatures began rising from the second week of February itself this year. While southern Telangana districts recorded normal or slightly lower temperatures, the northern and central districts recorded temperatures higher than normal.
The meteorological department said that last year temperatures fell sharply during the winter months between November and February, and that the highest temperatures this year were likely to behave in a similar pattern, with a possibility of hotter days and more hot days.
Normal temperatures are likely to prevail for the next three days, but temperatures are expected to rise gradually, with the highest temperatures likely to be recorded in the combined districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad and Karimnagar.
"The increase in temperatures will be rapid from the end of this month. Temperatures are likely to cross 40 degrees Celsius in the first week of April, and the maximum temperatures this season may range between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius," the officials said.
That also said that the impact of heat waves was likely to be greater in Bhupalpalli, Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts, and that heat waves might persist for longer periods this summer due to changing weather conditions.
However, light rains would also occur in many places during the second and third weeks of this month, the Met said.
