CM Reviews Rain Situation With Chief Secretary

Officials have been instructed to begin relief works wherever required.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is in Delhi, on Saturday, telephonically reviewed the the rain situation in AP, and the relief measures taken up, with Chief Secretary Dr. P K Mohanty.

Following directions from the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary directed the officials concerned to follow the guidelines already issued to them, and to provide relief to the affected people in rain-battered areas. He also directed the departments to take up all other relief works wherever required.

The Chief Secretary directed the District Collectors to constantly monitor the situation and evacuate people from low-lying areas wherever and whenever necessary. He also told them to keep medical teams and medicines ready as needed.

Officials said that 6 deaths were reported so far in the state, including four in Karimnagar, one in Visakhapatnam and one in Hyderabad. Two persons are reported missing in Khammam district.

25 houses (12 pucca and 13 kutcha) were fully damaged, 16 houses severely damaged, and 57 houses party damaged, following the heavy rains. The Chief Minister directed the District Collector that the kin of the dead be given relief as per norms.

Officials said that highest rainfall was recorded from the following areas: Wamkidi (Adilabad) - 40.6 mm, Jainad (Adilabad) - 38.2 mm, Narnoor (Adilabad) - 35.2 mm, Jiyyammavalasa (Vizianagaram) - 34.4 mm, Munchingiputtu (Visakhapatnam) - 30.6 mm, Kothru (Srikakulam)- 28.4 mm, Pulkil (Medak) - 27.0 mm, Kurupam (Vizianagaram) - 24.4 mm and Narsapuram (West Godavari) - 23.5 mm.

Meanwhile, the IMP forecasts no heavy rainfall in the state, and only light to moderate rain or thundershowers at a few places, in the next 48 hours. It also said that there would be a decrease in rainfall in the subsequent two days. (INN)
