Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today laid the foundation stone for an elevated corridor (Rajiv Rahadari Elevated Corridor - State Highway I) which will span 18.1 km, from the Paradise junction to Shamirpet, at a function held at TIMS, Alwal.
The corridor will occupy a total area of 197.2 acres, with 113.48 acres belonging to the defence ministry and the remaining 83.72 acres being private land. Of the 18.1 kilometers, 11.2 kilometres will be an elevated corridor. A 0.3-kilometre underground tunnel is also part of the corridor.
The project is being constructed at a cost Rs 2,232 crore.
The proposed project will alleviate traffic problems on the stretch from Secunderabad towards Karimnagar on the Rajiv Rahadari, and the motorists can reach the Outer Ring Road in a short span of time.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said the construction of Rajiv Rahadari Elevated Corridor would ease traffic problems on the Medchal-Quthbullapur-Karimnagar-Adilabad stretch.
"The project has been pending for some years as the Centre and the State government had locked horns on some issues. However, soon after coming to power, I spoke with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the defence minister, and apprised them of the issue. We then found a solution to the problem," Reddy said.
The CM alleged that the previous BRS government had delayed the allocation of land and the renewal of the lease of the Chandrayana Gutta defence land, but his government had reviewed things with the authorities and handed over the defence lands.
"The State cooperated, and the union government then helped the State government," he said.
"The Medchal area will be developed at the fast pace once the elevated corridor works are completed. North Telangana will also developed fast," he added.
The Chief Minister said that the State government would continuously seek the Centre's help for Telangana's development, and that it was ready to fight the Union government if it turned down the State's requests.
"We play politics only during the elections. The only goal before the government is Telangana's development," Reddy said.
He also said that the State government was committed to developing both Hyderabad and the Cantonment area in the coming days.
