Praja Rajyam Party activists on Friday started their padayatra from Lilamahal Centre in Tirumala, to highlight the 'irregularities' in the collections of the Lord Venkateshwara temple, and 'misuse' of the vast number of properties owned by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.
Leading the 'padyatra', PRP chief K Chiranjeevi demanded that the government order a CBI inquiry to find how the gold ornaments, offered by Vijayanagaram monarch Srikrishnadevaraya, were missing.
The former film actor said that it was imperative that a probe should be conducted into the affairs of the temple authorities and that the truth about how the ornaments were missing be made public.
The PRP chief said that the news reports of the irregularities in the management of the temple wealth have shaken the faith of the people, and that this faith must be restored.
He said that it the government must take steps to clear doubts on the safety of the offerings to the Lord.
Chiranjeevi garlanded a statue of Srikrishnadevaraya before setting off on the padyatra. 12 MLAs of the party accompanied the PRP chief, along with party activists.
