Chief Secretary and State Energy Conservation Mission chairman Minnie Mathew asked the power utilities to adopt effective energy management by taking all possible steps to yield the fruit of energy conservation, and to minimize the inconvenience to consumers to the maximum extent possible.
Addressing the interactive workshop, jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Commissionerate of Industries at CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, the Chief Secretary said that the government would continue to support the industry to provide suitable markets for energy efficient products and technologies. She said that the government was determined for the optimum utilization of power available in the grid and would make all efforts to become the Energy Efficiency Capital of the country.
To counter the ever increasing demand-supply gap due to various reasons like the severe scarcity of fuel such as natural gas, coal, inadequate inflows into hydel reservoirs, transmission corridor constraints, and climatic changes, Minnie Mathew said, the government has given utmost priority to the efficient use of energy resources. In fact, AP, like many other states, is facing a fuel crisis rather than a power shortage, which forced the power utilities to impose power restrictions on industries under unavoidable circumstances, she said.
The Chief Secretary has appreciated the activities and initiatives undertaken by the Indian Industry in addressing the issues and concerns of energy management. She highlighted that the State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) which was launched with four sub-groups is progressing well and making a good headway and hoped that the Mission would soon achieve its desired objectives.
Industries Department Principal Secretary K Pradeep Chandra said that implementing simple measures of energy conservation will result in significant ecological and economic benefits, and further stated that the commitment and initiative taken by the top management will definitely make the state an energy-efficient model which would be replicated across the country.
Industries Commissioner Rajat Kumar, CII-AP Chairperson Suchitra Ella and other officials also spoke. (INN)
