In order to meet the challenges of abnormal power demand, unprecedented shortage of fuel like natural gas, coal and low reservoir levels for hydel generation, and also to bridge the gap between demand and supply to the maximum extent possible, the State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) has adopted short-term and long-term communication strategies to make the conservation of energy a big success.
The ultimate objective of SECM is to create awareness on energy conservation among consumers by adopting various communication strategies which paves the way for considerable energy savings.
Chief Secretary and SECM Chairperson Minnie Mathew, who is going to review the communication strategies on Monday, directed all departments to implement energy conservation measures to achieve maximum energy savings at this critical juncture, and to see that maintenance wings in all government buildings follow the action plan to minimise their energy consumption. Energy conservation is the main mantra now, the Chief Secretary said.
While discussing the scope and impact of energy conservation with APTRANSCO CMD Hiralal Samariya, APCPDCL CMD G Anantha Ramu and and other officials said that the SECM/power utilities must be able to tell the public about the consequences of the fuel crisis and explain the people about the significance of conservation of energy, which would benefit both the society and sector.
As per the report of energy conservation committee submitted in 2011 revealed that there is every possibility of saving a minimum of 10000 MU per annum by implementing effective energy conservation and efficiency measures. (INN)
