AP Tops WB Energy Efficiency Rankings In India

World Bank ranked Andhra Pradesh the number one region in the nation in terms of energy efficiency implementation readiness.
Hyderabad | 4th November 2016
A major milestone has been achieved by Andhra Pradesh today in the area of Energy Efficiency as the World Bank ranked the State the number one region in the nation in terms of 'energy efficiency implementation readiness'.

The World Bank said that political will, visionary leadership and result-oriented approach of the State's Administration, headed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, helped the State in achieving the top rank, with an overall score of 42.01, followed by Rajasthan (41.89), Karnataka (39.34) and Maharashtra (39.29) on a scale of 100.

The World Bank estimated an unused capacity of 650 MW and around 1500 MW per year of annual energy savings within a span of two years.

This comes after AP adopted LED technology for domestic and urban street lighting.

World Bank Executive Director Subhash Chandra Garg said that Andhra Pradesh was currently championing energy efficiency in the nation. He said that this would protect the interests of future generations, given quickly depleting conventional energy reserves.

While congratulating AP Government for the energy efficiency as applauded by the World Bank, this is peanuts when compared to the Energy Efficiency plans announced since 2014. The Government which announced a plan to replace 15 lakh inefficient agricultural pumpsets since 2014(Which I suggested since long) is yet to initiate and implement the programme. This will save several times the energy saving mentioned by the World Bank. Agriculture consumes power next to Industry and domestic. About 30 percent of power can be saved. Without anybody's insistence, we have replaced 5 of our Agriculture pumpsets with lot of saving of power. Electricity is a high grade energy which is needed in lighting, industry etc. For agriculture only Rs 30 per pumpset is charged. Let AP Government go in for replacement of Agriculture pumpsets immediately. saved by replacing the old agricultural pumpsets. There were reports of bunt LED bulbs.
