Chemotherapy Facility At All Districts Hospitals Soon
Minister for Health T Harish Rao today announced that chemotherapy facility for cancer patients would be provided at all the district hospitals in Telangana soon.
Minister for Health T Harish Rao today announced that chemotherapy facility for cancer patients would be provided at all the district hospitals in Telangana soon.
"Last year, the State government spent Rs 137 crore to improve facilities for cancer patients. Chemotherapy and radiation facilities will also be provided at all the district hospitals soon," the minister said.
Rao was speaking after inaugurating a new oncology block on the premises of the MNJ Cancer Hospital along with union minister G Kishan Reddy.
The eight-storied 300-bed new cancer care block was developed by the Aurobindo Pharma Foundation, the CSR wing of Aurobindo Pharma, at a cost of Rs 80 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that with the inauguration of the new block, the number of beds in the hospital had reached 750. He added that the State government had also spent Rs 60 crore on the block.
He said the newly-inaugurated block would cater to children and women, and that the pediatric wing would have a dedicated teacher and a library to ensure continuity in the education of the children who underwent treatment in the hospital.
Alleging that the previous governments in the combined Andhra Pradesh had failed to improve the health infrastructure in Telangana, Rao said that the number of medical colleges was only 12 in 2014, but increased to 46 by 2022, and would touch 56 next year.
