Speaking to the media in Siddipet today, former minister Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government had failed the farmers of Telangana.
"Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is shamelessly asking people to celebrate, even after harming the farmers of the State," he said.
Rao challenged the Congress leaders, including Revanth Reddy and Rahul Gandhi, to an open debate on whether any of their promises to the farmers had been fulfilled. He accused them of backtracking on their promise of Rs 15,000 per acre per year under Rythu Bharosa, and said that they were now planning to provide only Rs 12,000 per acre.
Rao further asked Revanth Reddy, who had earlier demanded Rythu Bandhu benefits for three crops every year, on how he now planned to provide support for even a single crop.
He urged the farmers to confront the Congress leaders during the latter's visits to their villages.
The former minister also demanded answers regarding the unfulfilled promises made to tenant farmers.
"CM Revanth Reddy, who had promised Rs 12,000 for agricultural labourers, is now saying that it will be given only to 10 lakh labourers. There are 1.02 crore agricultural labourers in our State. What kind of morality is it to benefit only 10 lakh people?" he asked.
Rao also demanded that the Congress government provide the Rs 12,000 also to farmers owning just one acre of land, recognizing them as agricultural labourers.
Rao also accused the Congress of resorting to violence to divert public attention. Speaking on the attacks against BRS leaders, he said, "CM Revanth Reddy, who is also the Home Minister, must clarify his role in these attacks, as people suspect his involvement."
Rao also claimed that the crime rate in Telangana had risen by 23% under the Congress rule, and urged CM Revanth Reddy to put an end to the politics of violence. He called on the Central government to intervene, control the situation and impose President's rule in the State if necessary.
