Telangana Political Joint Action Committee Chairman M Kodandaram, on Thursday, demanded that the state government change the design of the Metro Rail Project, stating that the present design affects a large number of heritage structures, besides displacing hundreds of families in the city.
Talking to media persons, Kodandaram said that the present design, if implemented, would snatch livelihoods away from thousands of people, and would also destroy the heritage structures in the Old city.
He appealed to the government to rethink its decision to go ahead with the present design, and to consider constructing an underground railway line on the lines of New Delhi, without causing any damage to the city.
Kodandaram warned the government of serious consequences if it goes ahead with its proposal without changing the present design.
"The government should not play with the lives of people and their bread and butter," he stated.
The JAC chairman said that the JAC would convene a district leaders' meeting on 27 January to have a discussion on the promises made by the government to the employees during the Sakala Janula Samme.
He said that the JAC leaders would picket District Collectorates on 31 January in protest against the harassment meted out to them in offices in the Telangana region.
Kondandaram also criticized chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for dropping P Shankar Rao from the Cabinet. He also condemned the
desecration of B R Ambedkar's statues in Amamlapuram in East Godavari district. (INN)
