Mahender Reddy, the prime accused in the brutal murder of Telugu Desam leader Chalasani Venkateswara Rao, alias Pandu, was remanded to a 14 day judicial custody on Thursday by a city Court.
Mahender Reddy, whose real name is Mudala Mahipal Reddy, was shifted to Cherlapalli Jail as soon as the remand orders were pronounced.
Mahender has already confessed to have killed Pandu in a fit of rage following a dispute over the payment from the proceeds of a land deal.
Mahender Reddy had also said that though he had indeed committed the murder, it was not a premeditated crime. He also stated that he was an ardent follower of the TDP leader, and that in fact the two shared a bond like father and son.
Mahender Reddy said that differences between the two cropped up 3 years ago, after Pandu was evading payment of his share of the proceeds of a deal.
The accused also revealed that the events which led to the murder. He said that the two had had a bitter argument over the money before his patience ran out. Mahender Reddy said that he had committed the murder in a spur of the moment act, and had not meant to kill the man he had considered his father.
The main accused revealed that he had boarded a lorry to reach Gulbarga after rushing to his residence at Kukatpally after the murder.
Mahender Reddy also said that he had decided to surrender to the police the moment he came to know that the police were piling pressure on his family members by summoning them to police stations for questioning.
