A Central team began its survey of flood-hit districts in the state on Monday, and will examne the demand for Rs. 2,200 Cr in flood relief sought by the state.
A Central inter-ministerial team on Monday started its tour of 15 districts of Andhra Pradesh which had been ravaged by four successive natural disasters from May 2010 to December 2010.
The team, consisting of ten members, will conduct a reconnaissance of the 15 districts till February 9, and submit its report to the Centre so that the demand of the state government for Rs. 2,200 crores in assistance can be met.
The inter-ministerial team will be divided into two groups, comprising of Joint Director, Directorate of Jute Development, S M Kolatkar; Deputy Adviser, Planning Commission (PAMD), Raj Pal Singh; Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Executive Engineer A Krishna Prasad; Director (SGSY), Ministry of Rural Development, Jagdish Singh; Beverages Corporation MD M Subramanyam; Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, R R Jha; Superintending Engineer, Central Water Commission Krishna Coordination Circle, A Paramesham; Deputy Director, Department of Expenditure, Deena Nath; Assistant Commissioner, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy, Fisheries, B P Nagar; and Commissioner, Women Development and Child Welfare, Y Usha Rani.
Briefing the Central team, Revenue Minister N Raghuveera Reddy disclosed the details of the flood-affected districts and requested the Central Government to sanction Rs. 2,200 crores.
Raghuveera Reddy also notified the team about the series of tragedies that struck in the state during 2010-2011.
The intensity of the series of disasters had wreaked havoc, impacting the state economy, particularly the agriculture sector, the Minister told the Central team.
Reddy also informed the team that the state government had requested the Government of India to provide respite to the state by immediately releasing special attention and extending a financial package to Andhra Pradesh.
The Central Team will survey the rain-affected districts along with the concerned authorities and ministers from the state.
The team is expected to complete the survey by February 9, and its report will be given to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy by February 10.
Earlier, members of the Central team arrived in the city at 9am at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, and drove to Novotel Hotel where they met the Minister.
