Revenue Minister Dr. N Raghuveera Reddy, on Monday, announced that an ex-gratia amount of Rs. 2 lakh would be paid to the families of those killed in the recent rains and floods in Andhra Pradesh.
Talking to reporters after reviewing the relief and rescue operations with the officials at the state Secretariat, Raghuveera Reddy confirmed 12 deaths due to the rains across the state. He said that as many as 5,204 houses were damaged due to the heavy rains, while 804 villages lost electricity.
However, he said that relief measures were being taken up on an immediate basis, and that electricity was restored in 480 villages by 10am on Monday.
Following an IMD's alert of heavy rains for another 48 hours, the minister said that District Collectors have been put on alert, and that they have been asked to evacuate people to safer locations, wherever required. (INN)
