The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against controversial anesthetist of Andhra Pradesh Dr Sudhakar, who was posted in the Narsipatnam area hospital.
The CBI said that the case had been booked on the basis of a complaint by police constable Velagala Venkata Ramana.
It also said that the case had been booked in compliance with the directions issued by the apex court of the state.
The fourth town police of the city had booked a criminal case against Dr Sudhakar under sections 353, 427 and 506 of the IPC on May 16 on allegations of misbehaving with the police and preventing them from discharging their duties, on the national highway.
However, Dr Sudhakar alleged that the police had misbehaved with him during his arrest, prompting different civil society organizations and political party leaders to approach the High Court of the state.
After hearing the arguments, a division bench of the High Court had issued orders to the CBI to inquire into the issue.
In its FIR filed against Sudhakar, the CBI alleged that the doctor had not only behaved in a silly manner, but had also tried to criminally intimidate the police in order to prevent them from discharging their duties.
Dr Sudhakar has been lodged in the Visakhapatnam mental hospital since May 16.
