The police today registered a case against TRS MLC Patnam Mahender Reddy for abusing and threatening the Circle Inspector of Tanduru town in Vikarabad district.
Vikarabad Superintendent of Police N Koti Reddy said that a case has been registered against Reddy under Sections 353, 504 and 506 of the IPC in thee Tandur town police station.
Reddy was Transport Minister in the first term of the KCR government. He is also a relative of senior minister P Sabita Indra Reddy, and his younger brother defeated the Telangana Congress chief Revanth Reddy in the Assembly elections. Tandur was represented by Mahender Reddy during 2014-18, but he was denied the ticket in 2018 - Rohit Reddy was given the ticket by KCR (he won, too), and since then the two have had a bitter rivalry in the constituency.
Reddy had attended the Bhavigi Bhadreswara Jatara earlier this week. Later, Rohit Reddy too arrived at the festival. The policemen present at the location made seating arrangements for the MLA, and according to Mahender Reddy, Rohit Reddy was given more prominence. The TRS leader was miffed with the priority being given to Rohit Reddy over him, and reportedly used filthy language and threatened the police officer.
The audio of the humiliation of the Tandur CI Rajender Reddy by the MLC has gone viral, attracting severe criticism. In the audio, Reddy asked, "How can a policeman lay the carpet for a rowdy? How dare he do that? I will see your end."
