The Telangana government has taken a key decision regarding the Moinabad farmhouse drugs case, and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of Chevella DCP Yogesh Gautam.
DGP Shivadhar Reddy issued orders to this effect.
The SIT will investigate the origins and background of the party held at the farmhouse belonging to BRS leader and former MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy.
It will also inquire into the Dubai connections, Namith Sharma's real estate business dealings and the illicit drug trade linked to the case.
For context, the Telangana EAGLE and the Moinabad police had raided a party held on the night of March 14 at a farmhouse located in Aziznagar, Moinabad mandal, Ranga Reddy district.
During the investigation, Rohith Reddy was identified as the prime mastermind behind the party, which allegedly involved drugs and alcohol.
A total of 11 individuals had participated in the event. The police inquiry revealed that TDP MP Putta Mahesh Kumar, Rohith Reddy, Ritesh Reddy, Kaushik Ravi, Arjun Reddy, Namith Sharma and others consumed cocaine mixed with alcoholic beverages.
The police had registered a case against 11 individuals in connection with the incident.
Now the Moinabad police have decided to take the arrested accused - Rohith Reddy, Ritesh and Namith - into custody for interrogation. They are set to file a petition in court seeking custody of the accused for a period of three to five days.
Meanwhile, as per reports, on the directives of BRS president K Chandrashekar Rap, party legal cell leader Soma Bharath has issued a show-cause notice to Rohith Reddy.
The notice stated that the extensive media coverage surrounding the issue had tarnished the party's reputation and caused public concern.
It also said that the BRS, as a responsible political organisation, remained committed to upholding legal norms and ethical values.
The party unequivocally condemned any involvement in illicit activities - particularly the consumption of narcotics - or any association with such matters.
The BRS high command has directed Rohith Reddy to submit a clear and comprehensive written explanation regarding the allegations levelled against him within one week.
Rohith Reddy has also been ordered to refrain from participating in any party activities until the high command reaches a final decision on the matter.
The party leadership said that disciplinary action would be inevitable if the explanation provided was deemed unsatisfactory, and that there would be absolutely no compromise when it came to safeguarding the party's reputation.
