A political satirist on the social media Inturi Ravikiran was arrested by the Andhra Pradesh police in Hyderabad in the wee hours on Friday.
According to reports, a dozen policemen of Andhra Pradesh surrounded Ravikiran's house at Shamshabad at 3:30 am and whisked him away in a car without informing the family.
The policemen allegedly forced the house owner to call Ravikiran out, and once the door was opened, caught hold of the latter and bundled him into their car waiting downstairs, said his wife Sujana.
When Sujana asked why Ravikiran was being arrested, the cops said he was posting insulting satires on AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, his son Lokesh and the TDP.
They gave no information on where he was being taken.
The AP police did not also take permission from their Telangana counterparts for the operation.
The police said that under the heading "Political Punch", Ravikiran had been publishing cartoons in the social media lowering the dignity of the legislative bodies of the state.
On an illustration of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, the cartoonist had written as "A Certificate - Only For Adults" and posted it on the web.
The chairman of the A P Legislative Council took the cartoon seriously and got the A P Legislature secretary Satyanarayana to lodge complaints with the police and the Director General of Police against the cartoon.
After the arrest of Ravikiran, the Andhra Pradesh police reportedly shifting him to Amaravathi for interrogation and follow-up action.
Speaking on the occasion, the A P Legislature secretary warned that anybody making fun of the legislative bodies and lowering their dignity would be dealt with with an iron hand.
