Chief Election Commissioner S Y Qureshi, on Tuesday, said he would not intervene in the
arrest of YSR Congress Party president and Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy, as, he said, the matter was pending with the CBI special court.
Talking to media persons after discussing Y S Vijayamma's petition seeking the intervention of the Central Election Commission to get her son Jaganmohan Reddy released from jail, Quershi expressed his helplessness over the issue.
He said that it is the courts that must take a decision, and that the Election Commission would not intervene in judicial matters.
It may be mentioned here that Vijayamma wrote a letter to the CEC and sought Qureshi's intervention to get her son released from jail. In the letter, Vijayamma accused the CBI of acting under the instructions of the central government with the sole aim of keeping Jagan away from the campaign for the ensuing by-polls. (INN)
