Rani Kumudini, a retired IAS officer, has been appointed as State Election Commissioner.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma issued an order in this regard.
Retired IAS officer Parthasarathy was in that post so far. The government appointed Kumudini as his term ended recently.
Kumudini, a 1988 batch IAS officer, served in various capacities in the union and State governments. After working in some Central services, she took charge as Special Chief Secretary of Telangana State's labour department. She retired before the 2023 elections.
Parthasarathy's tenure as the SEC ended on the 8th of this month. As a result, the Congress government appointed Kumudini as the SEC. She will continue as the SEC for three years, the order of the Governor said.
The appointment of the new SEC assumes significance in the wake of the upcoming local body elections.
Meanwhile, retired IAS officer M G Gopal has been appointed as the State Vigilance Commissioner by the State government. Gopal, a 1983 batch IAS officer, had served in various capacities in the union government and Telangana State. He has been appointed as the Vigilance Commissioner for three years.
