The Andhra Pradesh High Court, on Wednesday, quashed the plea of Telugu-medium candidates who sought eligibility to appear for the AP Model School Teachers' test scheduled to be held on 10-11 May.
Disposing a petition, the court responded favourably to the government's view that it was necessary to have English-medium teachers in model schools in order to maintain standards in teaching.
The government's counsel argued that the purpose of maintaining standards in English-medium schools would be defeated with the appointment of Telugu-medium teachers, and appealed to the court not to give the latter eligibility in the recruitment for Model Schools.
However, the counsel of Telugu-medium candidates contended that they were equally competent.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the Telugu-medium candidates' petition.
With this court order, the government can now go ahead in the test 7,000 model school teachers on 10-11 May without any further legal complications. (INN)
