Cancel COP-11 For Telangana March: CPI
Intelligence reports warn of violence during the Telangana march; but the CPI says the march will go on, and advises the government to postpone COP-11 if it is worried.
Communist Party of India (CPI) National Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, on Wednesday, asked the government to postpone the International Convention on Biodiversity in the wake of the Intelligence Wing's reports that the Telangana March would witness violent incidents.
Participating in a "meet the press" program, Sudhakar Reddy said that Telangana leaders were determined to organise the march, and that they would not defer it at any cost.
He advised the government to find other alternatives such as postponing the biodiversity conference for a few days, especially in the wake of Intelligence reports.
"If the government is afraid of organising the march peacefully, it can adjourn the Biodiversity conference," he said.
Sudhakar Reddy also ridiculed Congress emissary Vayalar Ravi's remark that the government was pre-occupied with reforms and that no immediate decision could be taken on the Telangana issue. Accusing Ravi of making these comments to insult the Telangana leaders, he demanded that he immediately withdraw these remarks and apologise to the people of the region. (INN)
