Hyderabad | 26th September 2012
Director General (Law and Order) S A Huda, on Wednesday, said that the police have received inputs from the Intelligence wing that the properties of Seemandhra leaders and businessmen would be attacked during the Telangana March scheduled to be held on September 30.
Talking to media persons at his office, Huda said that the Intelligence reports have revealed that the march might create law and order problems, apart from causing huge damage to properties of Seemandhra people who have settled in the Telangana region for a long time.
He said that the activists might resort to violence in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Hi-Tech City, and the areas near the Assembly and Secretariat premises. However, he said that the police were making all efforts to protect the properties of Seemandhra people and of the government by ensuring the peaceful conduct of the march.
Husa said that taking the past experiences of violence (during the Million March on Tank Bund last year) into consideration, the police have not yet given permission to the Telangana March since Ganesh immersion and the Conference on Biodiversity are on September 29 and October 1, respectively.
He said that the government has set up check posts surrounding Hyderabad, and that it has intensified patrolling in the city, to prevent untoward incidents.
Huda said that this time the police "would not be mute spectators", and that they would take stern against those who take the law into their hands.
Responding to a question, he said that the police have information that people against whom police had slapped cases for participating in the statehood agitation were not participating in the March this time. He added that the police might arrest MPs and MLAs if they disturb law and order.
The Additional DGP appealed to the people to cooperate with the police in this regard and to maintain peace. (INN)
