Transco and Genco CMD D Prabhakar Rao today said that power consumption in Telangana had increased drastically, and that the State government was now supplying 15,497 MW of power to all the segments uninterruptedly.
However, despite the record consumption, the government still had spare capacity, and was ready to supply power without any problem even if the demand hit 18,000 MW, he claimed.
Rao along with family members visited the Sri Rajarajeswara Swamy temple in Vemulawada and offered prayers to the resident deity. Speaking to the media on the occasion, he said that under the supervision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, there had been no disruption in power supply in Telangana so far, and that steps had been taken to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all consumers.
The power consumption in Telangana had increased from 3,500 MW at this time last year to 4,000 MW per day, and the State government was spending Rs 20-25 crore per day to purchase electricity and supply it continuously, he said.
"We are now supplying quality power 24 hours a day to all the segments in Telangana. And so far, our officials have not received any complaint that crops have dried up due to lack of power supply. We have no connection to the ongoing politics over the power issue," Rao added.
