Activists of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) continued their protests for the second consecutive day on Wednesday across Telangana against TPCC chief Revanth Reddy's remarks on the free power supply to the agriculture sector.
BRS leaders and activists, including ministers, MLAs, MLCs, MPs and other elected representatives, staged dharnas and burnt effigies of Reddy, raising slogans against the Congress and its "anti-farmer policies".
MLC K Kavitha led the party's protest at Vidyut Saudha in Hyderabad against Reddy's statement. Party leaders, workers and supporters in large numbers took part in the agitation.
Speaking on the occasion, Kavitha lashed out at Congress party leadership for their "anti-farmer" stand, and said that its "farmers' declaration" was nothing but bogus.
"Revanth Reddy has been in both the TDP and the Congress, and these two parties never provided proper electricity to the farmers. Why are the Congress leaders getting upset when 24-hour power is being given to the farmers?" she asked.
She called upon the people to chase Reddy away if he visited any village in Telangana. She also demanded that the Congress leaders tender an unconditional apology to the farmers.
BRS working president and IT minister K T Rama Rao also slammed the Congress for "insulting the farmers", and said that the Congress' policy was an insult to small and marginal farmers.
He said that three-hour power supply for small and marginal farmers would mean them being forced to use "Bahubali" motors to ensure sufficient water supply to their fields.
The minister also claimed that the Congress had first failed to extend even seven hours of power supply to farmers when it was in power previously, and was now hatching conspiracies to abolish the 24-hour free power supply program, showing its deep antipathy for farmers.
