Ahead of the Assembly session, the BRS today staged a protest at the Amaraveerula Stupam in Gun Park over the acute urea shortage in Telangana.
The party leaders and supporters displayed empty urea bags as a symbolic protest and raised slogans against the Congress government.
They criticised the administration for letting farmers down during the agricultural season, and claimed that many farmers were forced to stand in long queues in the rains even on Ganesh Chaturthi to secure urea.
BRS working president K T Rama Rao said that the crisis was a direct result of the Congress government's mismanagement. "In KCR's decade-long tenure, farmers never faced such a fertiliser shortage. Today, they are compelled to wait in line with their shoes and Aadhaar cards just to get urea. This is nothing short of a betrayal of farmers by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy," he said.
Over 600 farmers had taken their own lives in recent months due to many agrarian issues, and nearly 75 lakh farmers were struggling due to fertiliser shortages and lack of government support, he claimed, and demanded the immediate resignation of the Congress legislators.
KTR also demanded that the Assembly sit for at least 15 days so that the BRS could discuss all the issues concerning the people.
"We are open to addressing all topics, including agriculture, irrigation, fee reimbursement and the failures in implementing the six guarantees. The Assembly should serve as a platform for meaningful discussions on the challenges faced by farmers and students, rather than for selective debates tailored to the government's convenience," he said.
KTR spoke about the need for a detailed debate on agricultural distress, the crop losses caused by heavy rains, and the unfulfilled promises of the Congress government. He also said that the BRS was prepared to prove the achievements of K Chandrashekar Rao's social welfare and irrigation programs, including the Kaleshwaram project, which he claimed was the world's largest lift irrigation project.
On the issue of the disqualified rebel MLAs, he said, "The process is underway. We will see what decision the Speaker takes."
He also dismissed the P C Ghose Commission as "not an inquiry commission but a Congress PCC Ghose Commission", and said that the BRS was ready to take on the government on this issue as well.
