BRS working president K T Rama Rao today said that the arrest of former Telangana Digital Media Director Dileep Konatham illegally without any formal information or clarity on the charges against him was a brazen display of autocratic governance.
KTR said that the arrest came after a series of incidents where Dileep questioned the inefficiency of Revanth Reddy's government, and that the latter seemed to be using revenge politics to silence critics.
KTR added that despite a previous reprimand from the High Court for such actions, the State government continued to target those who spoke out, showcasing a complete disregard for democratic principles. He strongly condemned the "unlawful" detention and called for Dileep's immediate release, and asserted that no number of false cases or arrests would stop the voices that questioned this administration.
The BRS leader also said that the blatant suppression of freedom of speech in Telangana had been going on for the last nine months, reflecting a shift towards autocracy under the Congress rule.
Former minister and Suryapet MLA Jagadish Reddy too slammed the arrest. He alleged that anarchic rule was running in the State, and that it was unfortunate that the police system was also a part of it.
He said that the Revanth Reddy government could not tolerate Dileep's questioning of its incompetence for some time.
"Even a few days ago, when they tried to create trouble in a false case, the High Court reprimanded them. Dileep was taken into custody illegally once again with the intention of strangling him. He was arrested without being given even the minimum information and without telling him what case he was being detained in. Is public administration meant to silence those who question?" he asked.
Reddy said that if the State government thought that it could continue to rule with illegal arrests and detentions, it was delusional. He said that the more the number of cases that were filed and the more the number of illegal arrests that were made, the more would be the people who questioned the government.
