MLAs and MLCs of the BRS came to the State Assembly in autorickshaws today for the Assembly session.
The symbolic journey was made in protest against the Congress government's "stand" on autorickshaw drivers.
BRS MLAs came from the MLA Quarters in Hyderguda to the Assembly in autorickshaws and staged a protest demanding justice for the autowallahs.
T Harish Rao, K P Vivekananda, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Sudheer Reddy, Madhavaram Krishna Rao and Padi Kaushik Reddy were among the MLAs who came to the Assembly in the autorickshaws.
Holding placards urging the State government to help the autorickshaw drivers, they staged a dharma in the Assembly premises leading to tension.
Former minister and Siddipet MLA Harish Rao demanded Rs 10,000 per month for the 6.5 lakh autorickshaw drivers in the State, who he claimed landed up on the streets due to the implementation of the free bus travel scheme for all the women of Telangana by the Congress government.
He also sought a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of each of the deceased autorickshaw drivers.
Some BRS leaders tried to take the placards inside the House, but were stopped by the police. An argument broke out between them, especially between Qutbullapur MLA K P Vivekananda and the police. Saifabad ACP Sanjay was allegedly abused as a useless fellow in the altercation.
The protesting BRS MLCs tried to enter the Council wearing black scarves, and the security personnel did not allow them initially. After a brief argument, the MLCs were sent inside.
