The politics of the Chevella Lok Sabha constituency have become interesting this time.
Both the Congress and the BJP candidates contesting for the Lok Sabha seat have won the seat as BRS candidates in the past - Konda Vishweshwar Reddy had won in 2014 against the Congress as the BRS candidate, while sitting MP Ranjith Reddy won in 2019 as a BRS candidate (defeating Konda Vishweshwar Reddy). Vishweshwar Reddy has since shifted to the BJP, and Ranjith Reddy to the Congress. And the BRS is going to face these two candidates as opponents this time.
Also, while the Congress and the BJP have given tickets to Reddy community leaders, the BRS is fielding a BC leader. Kasani Gyanenswar, who belongs to the politically recognized Mudiraj community in the combined Ranga Reddy district, has been finalised as the BRS candidate.
The BRS MLAs and former MLAs of the Chevella Lok Sabha constituency met recently at the residence of former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and drew up a strategy to take on the candidates of the Congress and the BJP who had earlier won from the BRS, and maintain the party's hold on the constituency. The Serilingampally, Rajendranagar, Maheswaram and Chevella Assembly constituencies have BRS MLAs, and the rural Vikarabad, Tandur and Parigi constituencies have Congress MLAs. The BRS believes that since the majority of the voters are in the urban part of the constituency, it has an edge. However, with some of the BRS cadres and leaders leaving along with them when Konda Vishweshwar Reddy and Ranjith Reddy left, the BRS leaders know that victory will not be easy unless the existing leaders of their own party cooperate fully.
