Indian women's cricket team skipper Mithali Raj was on Tuesday gifted a BMW 320D navy blue model by V Chamundeswaranath, vice-president of the Hyderabad Badminton Association.
Chamundeswaranath presented her the car at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy as a reward for her performance at the recently concluded ICC Women's World Cup. This is the second time that he has gifted her a car - he had gifted her a Chevrolet in 2007.
Hyderabad-based MaxiVision Super Specialty Eye Hospitals, too, felicitated Mithali Raj with a life-time free eye treatment card for her performance. Dr G S K Velu, Founder & Chairman, along with Dr. Kasu Prasad Reddy, Founder & Mentor, handed over the card to her.
The ceremony was held in collaboration with the Hyderabad Cricket Association at the Gopichand Badminton Academy, Gachibowli. Ace shuttler P V Sindhu and her coach Pullela Gopichand, who were also present at the event, were also honoured and offered the same reward.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr Velu said, "India is proud to have women cricketers like Mithali Raj, who not only led the team to the finals in the women's World Cup but also set a world record by crossing 6,000 runs in women's cricket. She has become a youth icon and a source of pride for Hyderabad with her stunning performance."
Dr Reddy said, "Mithali Raj's and her team's performance in the women's World Cup emphasize the need for the government to take up steps to encourage women's cricket in a big way. They will do wonders if the right coaching and support is given to them."
