In a dramatic finish, the BJP secured the Mayor's post in the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) with a total of 34 votes.
Kolagani Srinivas, a corporator from the second division, was elected Mayor, and Y Sunil Rao from the 42nd division was elected Deputy Mayor.
Of the 66 divisions, the BJP won 30. In addition, one corporator from the AIFB and two independents extended their support to the BJP's Mayor and Deputy Mayor candidates.
The count also included the ex-officio vote of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Although the BJP was close to securing a clear majority to control the KMC, the situation initially appeared uncertain as the Congress sought to claim the Mayor's post with the support of the BRS, MIM, AIFB and some independents. However, the equation changed overnight when the BRS decided to abstain from voting.
