Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy on Wednesday said that it was sheer arrogance on the part of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to insult Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Reddy said that it was a shame that the Chief Minister did not attend the welcome ceremony for the Prime Minister on July 2.
On earlier occasions too the Chief Minister had shown utter disrespect for the PM by not receiving him at the airport and by not participating in the programmes being attended by the PM.
Reddy said that whoever the Prime Minister of the country was, he needed to be considered the leader of the nation, and the person to be respected the most after the President. State leaders like the Chief Minister should show due respect to the Prime Minister and follow the protocol even if the latter belonged to a rival party. However, KCR had forgotten this badic principle and had insulted Prime Minister Modi three times this year, Reddy said.
He added that the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister owed allegiance to the Constitution of India, and that those who took oath under the Constitution needed to respect each other. But the Telangana CM had repeatedly violated it, he claimed.
"A Chief Minister may not humiliate a visiting Prime Minister out of a grudge. If he has any differences they should be discussed on other platforms, and resolved courteously. The Telangana BJP strongly condemns the act of the CM, and considers this as his headstrongness," Reddy said.
He added that the people closely watched such events and decided for themselves who was at fault. Lakhs of Telangana people felt bad at the insult meted out to the PM by the CM, and were faulting KCR, Reddy claimed.
"The people of Telangana give a lot of importance to hospitality to their friends and guests. They scrupulously follow all the tenets of hospitality to honour friends and relatives. Unfortunately, the CM does not have any such principles or wisdom," he added.
He said that the Chief Minister deliberately insulting the Prime Minister was reflective of the BJP?s popularity growing day by day, and claimed that the party was going to clinch power in the State in the next elections.
