Senior BJP leader K Lakshman said that the Congress government has failed to provide proper solace to rain-hit farmers, who were committing suicides.
Talking to media persons at the party office on Sunday, Lakshman accused the Congress of targeting the BJP instead of announcing a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the 2G Spectrum scam. He added that this has left the people of the country to fend for themselves.
Lakshman pointed out that the BJP was the first party to raise the issue of the Telangana state, and that the BJP has always supported the concept of smaller states.
He also expressed confidence that the people of AP have faith in the Srikrishna Committee, and that no untoward incidents will be witnessed after the submission of the panel's report.
The former MLA pointed out that, according to the secretary of the Srikrishna Committee, the panel will submit only its point of view on whether the conditions in the state are conducive for the bifurcation of AP.
He added that the Srikrishna Committee had only elicited the views of the people, which will be submitted to the government.
Lakshman added that if the UPA government tables the Telangana Bill in Parliament, the NDA will support it.
Answering a question, Lakshman said that the BJP's further course of action on the issue will be decided at a meeting, in Adilabad, with various JACs, in the first week of January 2011.
