Nearly 5 lakh people have applied for allotment of pattas under various schemes but have not received any allotments, says Bandaru Dattatreya.
BJP national vice president and former Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya, along with R Krishnaiah (president of BC Sankshema Sangam), on Monday, participated in a Maha Dharna orgqanised by the BC Front at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, demanding house site pattas to the poor.
Speaking on the occasion, Dattatreya said that during the 9 years of Congress rule in the state, not a single homeless SC, ST or BC person was allotted a house site patta of at least 60 yards.
He also said that nearly 5 lakh people have applied for allotment of pattas under the Indiramma Housing Scheme and the Rajiv Gruha Kalpa Housing scheme, and had even paid deposits for the same, but that so far, they did not receive any allotments.
"All these poor people have paid the initial seed money for these allotments, and money ranging from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000 had been deposited by each of these individuals. Neither have they been given their rightful allocation, nor has their hard-earned money been returned to them," he said.
Dattatreyya said that there are a large number of slums in Hyderabad that lack even basic infrastructure, and said that the families living there have been suffering due to the inaction of the government in allocating the pattas as promised.
"In spite of a large number of government lands being available in areas like Banjara Hills and Nanakramguda, they are not being put to use for the welfare of the people. Instead, they are being used to make crores of rupees by vested interests," he said.
Citing an example, he mentioned that the Sheikpet MRO, Chandrakala, was unfairly transferred when she denied an NOC to 5 acres of government land and protected it. He said that this example reflects the working style of the Kiran Kumar Reddy government, which he said does not care for the welfare of the people but only works for a few selected and elite people.
Dattatreya demanded that the government scrap G.O.M.S. No. 493, which banned allotment of 50 yards of patta land to the homeless poor, and to immediately allocate house site pattaas to all the eligible homeless poor. He demanded that independent houses be allotted instead of apartments.
He said that the government must pay back the deposited amounts along with interest. He also demanded justice for officials like Chandrakala, who was made a scapegoat. (INN)
