The newly-elected BJP corporators of the GHMC today staged a protest at the B R Ambedkar statue in Tank Bund, claiming that the TRS-led state government had been insulting them.
They added that such actions were deeply undemocratic as they (the corporators) had been democratically elected by the people of the state.
The corporators also alleged that the leaders of the ruling party had been attempting to poach them by offering them money.
The BJP's two MLAs in the Telangana Assembly T Raja Singh (Goshamahal) and Raghunandan Rao (Dubbaka) also took part in the protest program.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLAs attacked not only the state government but also the Telangana State Election Commission (SEC), and accused the two of colluding with each other.
Claiming that the SEC was supporting the TRS regime's attempts to undercut and insult the saffron party's elected officials, they demanded that the commission issue a gazette notification on the recent GHMC elections as its endorsement of the election results.
The leaders also vowed to expose the malpractices of both the state government and the SEC.
The BJP registered
a sharp spike in its vote share in the recently concluded GHMC elections, an indication of its increasing popularity in the state, which has left its primary rival in the state, the TRS, worried.
