BJP Asks Telangana Government To Rename Cities

The party wants changes in the names of Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Warangal and Adilabad.
Hyderabad | 15th February 2024
BJP MLA Dhanpal Surya Narayana, who represents Nizamabad Urban in the Telangana Assembly, today demanded that the State Government change the names of some cities of the State.

He suggested that the name of Hyderabad be changed into Bhagyanagar. He said that historians were saying that the name Bhagyanagaram had been derived from the Bhagya Lakshmi temple.

"Some say it's Baghnagar and others say Bhagmati. Anyway, many leaders had proposed a change in the name of Hyderabad earlier, too," he said.

Narayana also opined that the name of Nizamabad be changed to Induru, claiming that Induru was indeed the name of Nizamabad earlier and had been changed to Nizamabad only later.

He also demanded that Adilabad's name be changed to Edulapuram, and that of Warangal to Orugallu.

He suggested that the Revanth Reddy government ensure that the names of the four cities were changed as soon as possible.
