TDP workers led by Abhiruchi Madhu allegedly attacked YSR Congress Party Nandyal candidate Silpa Mohan Reddy's brother Silpa Chakrapani Reddy on Thursday.
Barely 24 hours after the polling in Nandyal, TDP workers led by Abhiruchi Madhu allegedly attacked YSR Congress Party candidate Silpa Mohan Reddy's brother Silpa Chakrapani Reddy near Suraj Hotel at Nandyal on Thursday.
Silpa's vehicle was stopped by the TDP mercenaries at the hotel, when he was returning from the funeral of YSRCP minority leader 'Chimping' Basha, along with his supporters.
The alleged "murder attempt" saw Madhu firing five rounds into the air, causing panic and fear among the residents in the area. Later, he was seen wielding a dagger and hurling abuses at Chakrapani Reddy. The police remained mute spectators and did not make any attempt to stop the two groups from clashing with each other.
On several occasions in the past, political parties questioned the State government's decision to provide a gunman to Madhu since he was a former rowdy-sheeter and had several criminal cases registered against him.
Meanwhile, Chakrapani Reddy told media persons that it was a deliberate attempt from the TDP to physically eliminate him.
