Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar today called upon the people to not pay the Additional Consumption Deposit (ACD) being imposed by the two electricity distribution companies along with the usual electricity bill charges.
Speaking to media persons after participating in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Monthly Mann Ki Baat program at Karimnagar, Sanjay sought to know from the State government why the people of the State should pay ACD charges to bail out the distribution companies.
He said, "The consumers are already burdened with increased power tariffs to the extent of Rs 6,000 crore, and the government is now getting ready to impose an additional burden of Rs 16,000 crore from April. Now, the consumers are also being forced to cough up a huge additional burden in the name of ACD charges."
Sanjay said that it was a blatant lie on the part of the KCR government to say that it was providing power to agriculture sector free of cost.
"The fact is that the government owes more than Rs 60,000 crore to the distribution companies for the free power supply, leading to the latter's virtual bankruptcy. Trying to extract that money from the other consumers now doesn't make it free power supply to agriculture by the KCR government. The government departments themselves are due to pay Rs 20,000 crore to the discoms. If the BJP comes to power, we will clear all the dues without burdening the consumers," he said.
Asking the people not to give vent to their anger on the electricity employees, the BJP president called upon the consumers to instead ask KCR why he was not able to recover huge power bill dues and penalties in the Old City.
