The Congress party cadres in the Mahabubnagar district enforced a bandh on Saturday protesting the attack on Makthal MLA Ch Rammohan Reddy of the Congress by Atchampet MLA Guvvala Balaraju of the TRS on Friday during a ZP meeting.
Nearly 900 RTC buses in the district were confined to their depots as Congress leaders staged a sit-in since early in the morning.
The Congress cadres organized huge rallies across the district raising slogans against the TRS government.
DCC president Obaidullah Kothwal demanded that the government initiate action against Balaraju.
Speaking to the media, Kothwal alleged that the ruling party MLA had murdered democracy by his action.
The ruling party leaders had also attacked another Congress MLA G Chinna Reddy in the past, in the Ghanapur mandal, he pointed out.
Former Minister D K Aruna too asked the government to initiate action against Balaraju.
Aruna also demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao tender an apology on the incident.
She stated that it was not proper on part of an MLA to abuse and attack another MLA in the name of caste, and asked the Chief Minister how Bangaru Telangana was possible with such MLAs.
