A case was registered today against Huzurabad MLA and BRS leader Padi Kaushik Reddy at the Karimnagar One Town police station.
The police registered the case on the basis of a complaint by ZP CEO Srinivas.
According to the complaint submitted to the police, the district Collector Pamela Satpathy was stopped by the MLA at the Karimnagar Zilla Parishad meeting on Tuesday.
He also obstructed the officials from performing their duties.
Reddy displayed placards at the Zilla Parishad meeting demanding the suspension of the District Education Officer, and raised slogans. Collector Satpathy got up from her chair and tried to get out of the meeting hall. Reddy and BRS representatives then staged a sit-in on the floor in front of her. An argument broke out between the police and Reddy for some time. And on Wednesday, the complaint was lodged by the ZP CEO against Reddy.
The case has been registered under sections 122 and 126 (2) of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which came into force two days ago.
Speaking on the registration of the case against him, Reddy said, "If you want to silence my voice and if you want to silence me, you can't do it. Is it wrong to ask on Huzurabad issues in Tuesday's ZP meeting? Don't I have the authority to hold a review meeting as an MLA?"
He said that there was nothing to be afraid of in the case filed against him. "You have to show me who I have blocked. We will also file a case in the Karimnagar One Town station about officials obstructing our duties. A criminal case should be registered against them, too. We will make a privilege move on the DEO and the ZP CEO. We will move forward as per the new criminal laws," Kaushik Reddy said, adding that he would also talk to his lawyer.
BRS working president K T Rama Rao expressed his displeasure over the registration of a criminal case against Reddy. He alleged that Reddy was booked illegally for fighting corruption in the government. "The BRS leaders will not be afraid of such threats," he said.
