Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday, spewed fire against the Centre over the tardy and haphazard preparations of the Common Wealth Games due to start from next week.
Talking to media persons at NTR Trust Bhavan, Naidu demanded that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh apologised to the nation for the haphazard preparations made for the Common Wealth Games scheduled to begin in New Delhi from next week. He said that the haphazard preparations had brought shame and ridicule to the nation.
Squarely blaming the Prime Minister for the mismanagement of the preparation for the Games, the former chief minister said that Manmohan Singh should have regularly reviewed the works in progress since the image of the nation was at stake.
Giving credit to his party, Naidu said that his government had successfully conducted the Asian Games and that had resulted in the country being chosen as hosts of the CWG.
Expressing his concern, the TDP chief criticised the security arrangements and accommodations given to the sportspersons from the participating countries and blamed the Indian Olympic Association, the Central and Delhi state governments for the lapses.
The former chief minister added that the country was facing ridicule from countries like Canada and New Zealand over the preparations, even though it had spent over Rs. 40,000 crore for the arrangements.
Naidu pointed out that both the IOA and the Delhi government were busy passing the blame on each other for the collapse of a foot bridge and the collapse of a ceiling, while the prestige of the nation was at stake.
The former chief minister demanded that all the people accused of being involved in the scams of CWG preparations should be punished. He demanded that the government should show absolutely no leniency in meting out punishments to the scamsters so that an example is set.
Referring to the spate of crimes in New Delhi and in the state, the TDP leader stated that law and order had been completely broken down. He said that the situation had deteriorated to such an extent that even a rowdy was able to talk to the chief minister.
The former chief minister demanded strict action against all those involved in the alleged irregularities in the APIIC-Emaar Properties land deals and the government should also register a case against the company.
Naidu said that the case against Emaar Properties could be registered under Section 235 of the Companies Act 1956.
Naidu prophesized that there were more scams just waiting to be unearthed, since “Fertiliser Mixing Plants are adding mud in fertilizers, while mining scams are on the verge of being detected."
The former chief minister appealed to the people to accept the verdict of Allahabad High Court even it goes against them.
