The Election Commission of India has approved the name Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS), and not the Telangana Rastra Sena that K Kavitha wanted, for her political party.
The approval letter was delivered to Kavitha's residence in Banjara Hills.
Earlier, she had publicly proposed the name Telangana Rashtra Sena during a meeting in Medchal Malkajgiri district on April 25. However, the Commission cleared "Telangana Rakshana Sena", which was among multiple options submitted by her as per the registration norms.
According to Election Commission guidelines, applicants seeking to register a political party must provide a list of alternative names to avoid duplication or similarity with existing parties. The term TRS had earlier been associated with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, now known as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, prompting scrutiny over name similarity.
Reacting to the development, Kavitha expressed happiness over the approval, and said that the name reflected her commitment to safeguarding Telangana's identity and cultural heritage.
In a post on X, she said that the name was her third preference among the five that she had submitted in January.
She added that the approval felt destined, and reaffirmed her resolve to continue working towards the preservation and revival of Telangana's culture and identity.
