In yet another case of unrequited "love", a B. Ed student named Sarika lost her life in the hands of her admirer, Raju.
Sarika, a native of the Kothur village in Mahabubnagar district, was pursuing her B. Ed at Anne Besant College of Education in the district of Khammam. Raju, an attender at the college, was smitten by her, and had extended a proposal of marriage to her a week ago.
Sarika rejected his proposal, and Raju avenged her refusal by killing her and stuffing her body into a small hole in the ground within the college compound.
On May 1st, when Sarika did not return home from her college, her worried parents lodged a police complaint. On Saturday morning, the police learnt that the girl had fallen victim to Raju's surging emotions.
The attender is at present in police custody, and the college management refuses to acknowledge the crime that took place in the college campus.
The victim's relatives and some students of the college, upon learning of the event, sabotaged the college. They broke open the lock of the college by smashing bricks against it, and proceeded to shatter windows and thow computers at the floor. The police intervened later to quieten the angry crowd.
Sarika's body, when removed from the site of burial, was found to be bent out of shape as the culprit had forced her body into an impossibly small space in his hurry to bury his crime.
